How to apply

Who Can Apply?

The VisitEngland Awards for Excellence are open to tourism businesses which meet the published criteria for the award category or categories they are entering. There is no requirement for businesses to be quality assessed by VisitEngland, the AA or any other assessing body.

For 2018 we will be reverting back to the Bronze, Silver and Gold designations.

Please note, overall category winners from the 2017 VisitEngland Awards for Excellence may not apply for the same category in the 2018 Awards. However, finalists (runners up) may reapply.

Each entry form below provides an overview of the category together with detailed guidance on the criteria and types of business and organisation that can apply. An overview of each category is on the Help Page

‚ÄčApplications must be completed online via the Online Tool. The PDF versions of the applications forms below are provided for information only and may be downloaded to review offline.

How do I enter?
The route of entry is different depending on which part of the country your business is located. For businesses located in areas where local or regional tourism awards are in operation, you must first enter the local/regional competition(s). Winners of these competitions are then eligible to apply to the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence via this website, (eligible businesses are not automatically entered). Entrants coming via this route have the chance of winning both a local/regional award and a national award. For businesses located in areas without a local or regional awards competition, you can enter the VisitEngland Awards competition direct.
How will I know which application route to take?
Go to the Apply section of this website and use the Where to Apply online tool. Select the area where your business is located and you will be shown the following options relevant to your area:
  • You can enter directly into the VisitEngland Awards. Proceed to application process.
  • You should first enter your local or regional competition. You will be given contact details and closing dates for these competitions.
  • You may enter the VisitEngland Awards directly for any categories that are not covered by your local/regional competition.
Does it cost anything to enter?
There are no direct entry fees for applications to the VisitEngland Awards. However, organisers of some local and regional competitions that link with the national awards do require applicants to be members of their relevant destination organisation and may charge a fee. Please check with your local/regional competition organiser.

In addition, as part of the judging process for the VisitEngland Awards, some category entrants may be subject to a mystery shopping visit. In these cases our assessors will advise entrants when they are checking out or leaving and any costs associated with their accommodation, meals or entry charge must be reimbursed. Details are included on the individual application forms where this may apply.
Can I enter more than one category?
Yes. We encourage businesses to enter as many categories as they wish as long as they meet the required criteria for each category. However, separate applications must be submitted for each.
